As the first sacrament of Christian Initiation, baptism provides a grace-filled entrance into the hurch and the beginning of a life centered in the love and service of Christ. In order to prepare parents and godparents for the sacrament, their role and duty as primary faith providers, St. Mary Parish offers our parishioners a single baptismal preparation class to assist with spiritual growth and readiness.
The Infant Baptism class teaches parents and godparents why the Catholic Church baptizes infants and also provides a brief history of baptism. The rites and symbols of baptism, the role of godparents, and some suggestions on Christian parenting are addressed.
Resource and reference material is discussed and we encourage participants to participate in St. Mary's ministries. At the end of class we do a walk-thru for the Baptism which is scheduled the Saturday following the class.
