The reception of First Communion generally takes place when the child is in 2nd Grade. The curriculum for the regular classes all lead to these two sacraments. There are always some 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students who also need this preparation and they join with the 2nd grade group. Older students are prepared separately in a manner appropriate to their age.
The Diocese requires that formal religion classes have been well attended before entering into the preparation for the Sacraments. If this is not the case, then the child will be asked to wait until the following year.
Currently, these classes take place on Thursday evenings during the months of February, March and April with the Reconciliation taking place in early March and First Communion Masses at the end of April and the beginning of May.
Baptism Certificates and registration signed by the legal guardians are required before the child receives the Sacraments.
Parents will receive a letter from the Children's Ministry office just after Christmas break inviting them to take part in the Sacrament Preparation. If you have a child looking forward to the Sacraments and you don't receive a letter at that time, please notify Mrs. Dunn right away so your child will be included.
