As COVID continues to spread, it looks less likely that Elementary Faith Formation will have a K-5 classroom model beginning in September. So, "Plan B" is the alternative: a home-based model with parental support. Registered families in grades K-5 will pick up customized packets in September that will include textbooks, a study schedule /calendar, and lesson plans so parents are able to cover the basics and hopefully not feel overwhelmed. Parents with children in multiple grades also receive a vertical alignment across grade levels to teach the most important learning targets.
Each week parents receive a short video that outlines the lesson’s “Essential Question” (EQ) along with additional family faith-sharing resources to supplement the lesson plan [i.e. Sunday Mass Prep (Holy Heroes), Celebrating Sunday for Catholic Families (LTP), Worship@Home (Pastoral Center), etc.] It might be a shared prayer, an activity, challenge, or video reflection related to the EQ. Catechesis helps illuminate the relationship that exists between God and the child through the written word and through a lively faith shared at home. So, occasionally on those crazy-busy weeks, these resources could substitute for the written lesson.
After reevaluating in the fall, we hope to have in-person classes for those families who so choose.
