The act of remembering our loved ones, who have gone before us, is the one thing that death can’t take from us. We are reminded that, in our celebration of the Eucharist, we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses.
At every Mass, I am always touched by the incredible TRUTH that heaven and earth are joined. You and I are privileged to take part in this highest form of prayer. We are reminded as we pray the Preface: “And so, with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominions, and with all the hosts and Powers of heaven, we sing the hymn of your glory,as without end, we acclaim: Holy ….”
Our celebration of the Eucharist is where I realize we are connecting to that great celebration in heaven. In this glorious celebration, heaven & earth are joined.
Although death feels like separation – it does not make us lose contact with those who have gone before us. If only I could remember this TRUTH: We are united with the Angels & the Saints and all those we love who have gone home to God.
As our way of remembering this TRUTH, in our celebration of the Eucharist, heaven and earth are joined together. I would like to invite you to bring a photo of your deceased loved one, in a stand-alone picture frame with your name on the back (no larger than 8 x 10) to our Mass on Wednesday, November 2nd and throughout the month of November. These photos will be placed in the Church as a visible reminder that all those who have gone before us are always with us, especially when we celebrate the Eucharist.
We will also continue the tradition of our Book of Remembrance, in which we write the names of our deceased loved ones. It will be carried up and placed in the sanctuary at each Mass. - Fr. John
