Little children are naturally comfortable praying to God. We can provide time and space for this to occur in our homes also known as our domestic churches. Mealtimes, bedtimes, comings, and goings are opportunities to think about God's presence in our lives. Why not create a physical space as well?
Start with a table or shelf that is low enough for the smallest members of your family to use. Begin simply. Ask the children to contribute items that help them think about God. You might gradually add a Bible or a favorite Scripture, a cloth in the liturgical color of the season, a candle, a crucifix, a rosary, holy cards, images of saints, or holy water. Add a chair or cushion to kneel on for prayer. Change seasonal and personal items occasionally. Spend time with God in your new sacred space, together and individually.
